Roozgaar.com announced some tips for the betterment of your professional life: Raising your bliss remainder at work!

Being smiling face at office or workplace happiness is really hard to define! Work has always been a reason of constant irritation and stress for many. Beautiful days seem shady, your tea starts tasting bitter and the soothing voices of your co-workers or colleagues do little to quell the looming twitch in your eyes. You’re panicked, yet reconciled, as you take that last sighing breath before opening the door. You’re at work and you’re miserable! Is there something as a dream job?? Well…There is nothing such as a dream job. The newness and excitement of that once-perfect opportunity tends to wear off after a year, as you become focused on the more important aspects of your tasks, colleagues and boss.

Companies often employ management consultants to discover ways to improve efficiency at work and to foster healthy working environment. They mainly emphasize on processes and procedures. But, there is actually an even more important ingredient for improvement of the workplace productivity: And that is ‘Happiness’! It about loves what you do and this is how one can actually instill productivity in assigned tasks.  Knowing that what you do is important and being acknowledged for it and being constantly energized. That’s because when employees are happy and motivated, the business benefits more efficiently, because happy people accomplish better results with higher quality, and are less vulnerable to stress.

It sounds like some kind of Nirvana, doesn’t it? After all, who doesn’t fancy being happy? But how can you be happy at work even in the face of adversities? And how can you not look at what’s wrong with your job and instead focus on what’s good about it?

Let’s have a look at few easy ways spotted by Roozgaar team to make it possible:

Take a control:

Negativity is agony inside the dying head or is an infectious misery that drains you of energy and saps your excitement. Understand that your happiness is your responsibility. And shifting negative thoughts to positive ones can actually perk up your mood and way of thinking. It is scientifically proved that one positive thought is much more powerful the thousand negative thoughts. Start by making a list of all that’s great about your job, including the fact you have one. Don’t reflect on it. Just feel the gratitude, let it well up and spill over you. This will require constant practice but you can eventually get there. Now from here on, starts dealing with the problems you are facing. They will not only seem less dreadful but you’ll also able to resolve your sticky situations more easily.

Set your goals:

One has to clear with what he/she want. There is nothing more infuriating than working arbitrarily without having a clear understanding of your career path and goals. Without knowing how your work impacts the bigger picture you might as well end up spending a lot of time on urgent but trivial issues rather than tasks that could certainly impact the bigger picture. So clarify in clear certain terms your vision and objectives and focus on whether you are headed to. It is amazing how much you can accomplish once you have perfected your precise goals and the level of contentment you will feel once you have reached your desired destination.
Take a challenge:
Change is the only thing which is constant, otherwise things will get obsolete. Monotony is one of the biggest hurdles to career fulfillment. After a year or so, doing the same thing at work, you might get stuck in a rut. So to get back some of that “new job” enthusiasm challenge you and start doing things a bit differently. Make an effort to learn something new and volunteer for projects that’s outside your comfort zone. Push your limits and get your adrenaline pumping; it may open doors to some unexpected opportunities.
Balanced work life:
It takes a minute to lose but takes months or years to built. It is very easy to lose yourself to work and overlook what awaits you outside the work arena. Maintaining great work/life equilibrium is vital for both your enthusiasm level and general well-being. So take out time for things you love doing outside your work- whether it’s spending time with family or connecting with friends, or simple pleasures like exercising, shopping, reading or other activities and hobbies that channel your energy and creativity. Having something to look forward to after work will not only see you through moments of drudgery at work but will also keep your energy levels and enthusiasm pretty high?
Avoid constant stimulation:

We live in a world of endless stimulation. Sometimes, this creates monotony and restlessness when we run out of things to do. So if you seek happiness, try overcoming this addiction! Develop the capability to enjoy life in its totality – even when the stimulation stops. Appreciate the small things life has to offer and cherish moments you spend with your near and dear ones.
And while happiness alone might not increase work productivity, it’s a pretty solid start.

“For many people a job is more than an income – it's an important part of who we are.
So a career transition of any sort is one of the most unsettling experiences you can face in your life”.

Companies look to hire experienced talent

MUMBAI: Cutting back on hiring entry- and junior-level staff, Indian companies are increasingly looking to hire experienced professionals who would hit the ground running from day one, says a report by a recruitment firm shared exclusively with TOI. Overall, it found an improvement in business sentiment, predicting that net business outlook will improve by 3% in the next six months.

The half-yearly report forecasting hiring trends from October 2013 to March 2014 said engineering as a function remains in demand, especially for the talent coming from tier II and tier III cities like Allahabad, Bareilly, Ludhiana, Ranchi and Warangal. Businesses which are sensitive to the political-economic fallout of the impending general elections are the ones that are most likely to go slow on hiring. The bright spots on the jobs chart are the consumer goods, retail, pharma and healthcare sectors, which are expected to register increased hiring over the next six months.

"The FMCG industry is not witnessing any slowdown in hiring. Despite the tough macro-economic conditions, we are among the few sectors that have been reporting good growth quarter-on-quarter. So, hiring continues at our organization. As we expand our rural footprint, we are constantly adding numbers in the rural markets," said HR V Krishnan, executive VP at Dabur. The maker of Vatika hair oil and Real juices added around 1,000 employees for its rural expansion over the past one year.

We will hire 400 Engineers

Roozgaar News

HYDERABAD: Pune-based IT player Zensar Technologies Limited chief executive officer Ganesh Natarajan on Monday said the ailing Indian economy will force the IT companies to stay focused on the traditional IT markets such as US and Europe and avoid the domestic market for some time.

“A falling Rupee is a deterrent. There has been very poor decision making in the country. No body is going to look at the domestic market till the economy stabilises. IT companies will focus on the traditional markets – US and Europe,” Zensar Technologies Limited chief executive officer Ganesh Natarajan said while speaking at the sidelines of the IT and ITeS Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh (ITsAP) HR summit here.

On being asked about the IT industry growth in this fiscal, Natarajan said the 13% – 14% growth that has been predicted by IT-body Nasscom was achievable.

“Compared to last year, the situation is much better. There is lot of opportunity as US, UK and Europe markets are in much better shape,” he said Meanwhile, speaking about the company’s future plans, Natarajan said, the company has appointed an investment banker to scout for acquisition opportunities in areas such as SAP or digital enterprises and the company is looking at a deal size between $25 million to $75 million.

However, he added that the company has not found the ‘right’ target yet but Zensar’s growth will continue even if an acquisition does not take place.

Speaking about the company’s hiring plans, Natarajan said, Zensar will be hiring close to 400 engineers and 150 non-engineers this fiscal.

Nokia deal

Roozgaar News

In a last-ditch effort to catch the mobile-device wave that Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOG) are riding, Microsoft is making a $7.2 billion bet on Finnish phone company Nokia.

Several analysts said the agreement announced late Monday to buy most of Nokia makes sense for the Redmond, Wash., corporation. Given time and Microsoft’s enormous financial reserves, they said, the deal could pose a serious threat to other

gadget makers, especially Apple, which has seen its sales slow and reputation for innovation questioned.

“The idea that Nokia is going to have reserves that eclipse Apple’s would certainly concern me if I were Tim Cook,” said tech analyst Rob Enderle, referring to the Cupertino company’s CEO.

Microsoft will be diving into a hardware business dominated by Apple and phone makers using Google’s Android operating system. Together, they control more than 90 percent of the smartphone market. But Microsoft is a tech titan in its own right, with nearly $80 billion in annual sales, the widely popular Internet communications service Skype, and software that runs millions of personal computers.

Under the deal, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year pending approval by Nokia’s shareholders, Microsoft will buy the Finnish company’s phone business and license its patents. That should be a good fit for Microsoft, some analysts believe, because Nokia’s phones already use Windows. Moreover, they said, it will allow Microsoft to control the production of those phones from beginning to end, emulating how Apple makes its mobile gadgets.

Still, experts said it could take years for Microsoft to significantly boost Nokia’s sales. Moreover, some cautioned that the deal could worsen Microsoft’s relationship with companies like Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), because it would pit Microsoft’s devices against those from HP and other firms that use Microsoft’s Windows software in their products.

Google Employees

Roozgaar News

Google known for its work culture that includes doses of free perks recently conducted an experiment to analyse the snacking habits of its employees.

Google realized that its workers were eating too much of the free candies and food which needed to be replaced with healthier alternatives at arm’s reach.

The company conducted surveys of snacking patterns through the M&M project, collected data on the proximity of M&M bins to any given employee and conducted experiments by placing sugary foods in opaque containers and healthier snacks in glass jars.

According to the Washington Post, the search giant is known to analyse every corner of its workplace to ensure more productivity and better results.

However, some analysts question whether the free meals, napping stations and inexpensive massages make people stay in the office longer, perpetuating a work-obsessed culture that has eaten into family life and community.

While others said that with such experiments Google is trying to signal that it cares about it employees’ health and its efforts are welcomed by the new employees.

Other than the candy munching habit, Google also tried to promote drinking more water by placing bottled water on eye-level shelves and behind clear glass while putting sugary sodas on the bottom shelves of refrigerators and behind frosted glass which resulted in 47 per cent increase in water consumption after several weeks, reducing the sugary intake by 7 per cent.

“Nordics is poised to become one of the more important growth markets for Wipro and we are committed to investing in the region. I am confident that Hallstrom will be able to build on the growth momentum in the region,” Mathur said.
The European market contributed 29 per cent to the company’s revenues in the April-June 2013 quarter. The company does not provide region-specific numbers.

800 customer-service jobs

Sprint is eliminating about 800 customer service jobs because fewer people are calling its centers
NEW YORK: Sprint is eliminating about 800 customer service jobs because fewer people are calling its centres, the company said. With growth in other parts of the business, however, Sprint said it expects the company’s work force to remain at about 40,000.Sprint said most of the affected workers were notified last Thursday. Others will be told next month after Sprint figures out which additional positions will be cut. The company said the cuts are at various locations across the country.
Sprint to cut 800 customer-service jobs
Sprint’s headquarters are in Overland Park. Last month, Japanese investment firm SoftBank completed a $21.6 billion investment in Sprint, giving it a 78% stake in the third-largest US wireless carrier.
Sprint said its efforts to increase customer satisfaction helped to reduce the number of calls for customer service. According to the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index, Sprint had a 71 rating out of 100. That was unchanged from last year, but an improvement from its low of 56 in 2008. Verizon Wireless was at 73, AT&T at 70 and T-Mobile at 68 this year.
“As customer satisfaction improves and in turn calls to customer care decrease, our staffing needs in this area decrease,” Sprint said in a statement. “This organizational action keeps our costs in line with these efficiencies.”
Growth areas include positions at its retail stores, Sprint said.

It’s that time of the year again! The annual appraisal form is about to be dropped in your mailbox. And like so many others, you’ll sit on it till the deadline looms. Then you’ll scurry to fill it by copying from your colleagues and just get done with the ritual. This, however, is not the best way to go about it; nor is it a great idea to see your appraisal as a sheer formality.

Getting a great appraisal depends a lot on how your efforts are listed on paper and summarised to reflect measurable growth. But, summing up each achievement succinctly in your appraisal form can be pretty challenging and exhaustive too.

So just read on for some tips to make sure that the weight of your work translates effectively in your assessment form as well:

Start with listing your responsibilities

Performance Appraisal FormYour appraisal form gives you the perfect opportunity to speak about not just the work that you handle, but also about the initiatives, bigger projects and development plans that you are involved in. So, this is your chance to voice your involvement loud and clear and list all your responsibilities within your organisation. It is quite common for people to write lengthy essays or long paragraphs, but brevity is the key. It’s always better to write bullet points that reflect your achievements and goals and support them with explicit examples. This is an important occurrence that captures the spirit of the year, so attention to figures, facts and metrics are vital for a fruitful discussion. It’s better to keep a log of your feedback and refer to them.

Connect your accomplishment with KRAs

Simply writing about your high-performance areas won’t suffice. Appraisals measure your performance based on the expectations from your employees. So, don’t just mention random facts, instead connect them to your KRAs. This will not only draw focus to your overall performance but also demonstrate that you have a good understanding of your job responsibilities.

Keep your tonality crisp and professional

Refrain from using informal words or phrases. It can be the worst way of writing your self-appraisal. Even the best of employees can appear shabby with a badly written self-appraisal. So keep your tone professional and sentences short. It’s always better to write in first person.
Carefully acknowledge mistakes
Unless you’re the best thing that ever happened to your organisation, you’re likely to have flaws or have made blunders too. Try and give the best feasible spin to your problem areas so that you don’t provide your boss ‘the noose with which to hang you’. Identify your short comings and ask for whatever assistance you require. Address your weaknesses; but tread lightly. Rather, focus more on your strengths.
Evaluate honestly
Some people simply talk about their achievements which could be a risky move. It can often backfire and in some cultures could be equal to a career suicide. So if you are planning to give yourself an “excellent” rating, make sure you have accomplishments to back it up. And if you aren’t really a stellar worker, be candid enough. Write about why your rating is low and how you are planning to turn things around.

Smart employees utilize appraisals to lobby for professional growth opportunities. So even if your manager isn’t openly asking for it, include it nevertheless “because if you won’t ask, it’s never going to happen.” Be precise. Explain the parts of your work that excite you most and recommend ways to become more involved in them. You might be willing to be a part of a certain brainstorming meeting or keen on taking some sort of training. Just make sure your requests echo your business requirements as well.
